Max Hoffman, on many levels, is responsible for the sowing the early seeds of Porsche enthusiasm in North America. He was the first to import the 356 in the 50s, displaying them in his Park Avenue show room. He's also the man that reportedly convinced the Porsche family to build the Speedster for the North American market, a car that has become an icon, both for Porsche and post-war America.

Due to the shortage of metal during the war, sales were so profitable that by war's end, Hoffman had accumulated enough capital to be able to return to his first love, automobiles. "
