Life 'n LA

Life 'n LA

This is by far the best random blog I've come across. If you're from LA, you'll laugh yourself silly.

If you're not from LA, you'll cringe at the thought that we(who DO live here) put up with this place. And secretly love it.

Free Trade Posted by Hello

NAFTA

"Free-trade is a one way river."

Rich, you can't use this(the quote, not the picture). I've officially appropriated it for myself.

I WOULDN'T WISH...

The film industry on my worst enemy.

Stay away, FAAAAAR away.

Politica Americana

CNN.com - Transcripts - Jon Stewart on Crossfire.

Yes, I know. I'm way behind in the events of the day, but I just read this online and found it quite interesting.

...and for those that can't read or don't enjoy it, you can also watch it...

The other thing I found, thanks to my friend Chris' blog, blogthisblogthisblogthis, an interview with Jimmy Carter, discussing the recent "situation" in Iraq.

Jimmy carter on Hardball

and yes, it also has a video link.

FINALLY, this is a fun little musical number from my favorite current film. Who said dictators aren't sensitive?

Kim Jong Il - "So Lonely"(requires RealPlayer)

ah, good times.

What ever happened to Ronnie's little kid brother?

I have no idea what network this is on, or what this show is...

The Clint Howard Show

Is it a "real" TV show? Maybe. Is it a website? Well, obviously, or we wouldn't be talking about it. Is it funny? I don't know; watch it.

Clint is (director) Ron Howard's brother BTW.

Gettin' down with G - O - D

Genesis
7:11 - 12
"In the six hundredth year of Noah's life, in the second month, on the seventeenth day of the month: it was on that day that All the fountains of the great abyss burst forth, and the floodgates of the sky were opened. For forty days and forty nights heavy rain poured down on the earth."

8:1-3
"...and then God remembered Noah and all the animals, wild and tame, that were with him in the ark. So God made a wind sweep over the earth, and the waters began to subside. The fountains of the abyss and the floodgates of the sky were closed, and the downpour from the sky was held back. Gradually the waters receded from the earth. At the end of one hundred and fifty days, the waters had so diminished..."

OK, it wasn't quite that dramatic, but it sure felt that way. Only now do I realize what a PUSSY living in California has made me.

BEST DAMN ANAL SEX, EVER! PERIOD!!

This movie was sheer brilliance...

TEAM AMERICA:WORLD POLICE is a totally kick ass movie!!

Finally, after waiting more then 3 years for someone to satirize ALL that happened and involved the 9/11 "thing" in New York, leave it up to two Yanks, Trey Parker and Matt Stone(d) to do the deed.

What makes this film work, in my opinion, is that it attacks the left, right and center. The hypocrisy and ignorance is revealed!!

This movie features, lots of explosions...

Musical numbers...

and plenty of gratuitous PUPPET SEX! YESS!!!
(picture not available due to the harm that can be caused to persons under the age of 17 after having seen wood-carved figurines getting some action)

This movie sums up what I believe in most strongly:

I want people to leave the theater thinking - "I can't believe someone gave them the money to make that!!"

"A sign from God"

I made an important realization this weekend.

IF...

a 1966, short-wheelbase, 912, in SLATE-GREY...

...with the optional 901/5 transmission and 3-gauge instrument cluster...

...comes up for sale...

I will regard it as a sign from god, that I was meant to have that car.

Seats are optional, but will be added later.

Adios.

First rain in 180 days? It couldn't be 181 or 179!?!?

As proud Euro-trash and devoted F1 fan, I felt like I was visiting China on a foreign-language exchange.

Saturday night was spent in the dirt at Ventura Raceway, a 1/5 Mile clay/dirt oval by the beaches in, where else, but Ventura California.

but, you know what? Raceing is raceing!! V8s, throttle steering around and around and around....

we were there supporting David Cardey, in #59

Check out The Wag Times website for details on the winners circle. David won the "Lil Dawg Dash" Saturday night...

And in Porsche news...

(Jack Olsen's '72, 3.6L powered, "RSR" Canyon Machine)
Of course, I'm bumed today, 'cause I was meant to join a "Pelican Parts"** Porsche Canyon run, but we got rained out!!

CALIFORNIA!! IT'S NOT SUPPOSED TO RAIN HERE!!!WHAT THE HELL IS THAT ALL ABOUT!@#$!@#!(explatives)

**blogger's foot note: Pelican Parts is an on-line car-parts store for Porsche and BMW. Part of their service is a message board for their customers to communicate and exchange technical information. Once in a while "Pelican Heads" meet up in person to throw their cars around on windy, narrow roads.

Anne-Sophie Mutter

FanFaire celebrates Anne-Sophie Mutter

Right now, I'm listening to Anne-Sophie play Beethoven with the Berlin Phil, conducted by late Herbert Karajan.

I've always loved her music, but I never put any thought into how HOT she actually is.

The official website

I've actually seen her perform; out side Hamburg, in an in-door horse arena of all places. I was around ten or twelve, and too young to appreciate it, but I'm glad I had the opportunity to see her perform.

I just wish she would play SoCal in the near future...

CORONADO

Oh, wow!! I LOVE Southern California.

I know I was complaining a few weeks back, that there aren't any mountains in the area worth skiing, but there is so much OTHER coooool stuff to do down here.

Saturday I spend all day in the hot October Sun of San Diego, enjoying the "Chrysler Classic Speed Festival", held on the North Island of the Coronado Naval base, one of the larges navy bases in the continental US (and probably the world, since the Americans do in deed have the biggest army in the world, you know, to protect themselves and stuff).

If you want to learn more, here's the website...

Coronado Base website

This event is hosted by the same organization that produces the Monterey Historic Races, the Wine Country Classic at Sears Point (sorry, INFINEON race way!), as well as the Watkins Glen Historic races on the east coast.

The track is exciting, because it's essentially an "airport track", like in the golden age when a lot of these cars were raced.

356s, Morgans, Lotus', Alfa GTVs and other small-block sports cars LOVE short-tracks, so it was a great day of exciting vintage sprints.

A great shot of a '67 910 being throttle-steered around one of the corners at the 2003 event.

WOW!! Did that 911 just pass all those big-block American V8s?

and finally, it isn't every day that you get to see a Jaguar Type-D being raced...

"I said INCH! not itch!!!"

I love this movie.

I don't even know how many times I've seen it by now, since I have it on tape (thanks Rob).

By using one of the website features, I discovered that, IF I chose to become a glam-rocker (eg. Ziggy Stardust, Gary Glitter, etc.), my stage name would be...

PINK FREAK

hmmm, I don't know if I like that. Well, I guess my Deutsche Telekom jersey from the 97 Tour de France would be explained, and I am a (Pink) Floyd fan.

I tried it a second time, and it came out the same, so I know it's not random. I then went ahead and tried my alter ego, Bob Smith...

MIDNIGHT TRANSMISSION

Well, as long as it's a G-50, instead of that sloppy 915 box, I guess I'm ok(that's a little joke for the Porsche fans reading).

The website for the DVD release is still active...

The website

Have a look and learn about this twisted, fringe-culture picture. Hope you aren't affraid of drag queens.

A comedic legend passes

If you haven't heard already, Rodney Dangerfield passed away on Tuesday, at UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles. He was 82.

Known for his bulging eyes, constantly yanking at his neck-tie, self-depricating humour ("I'm trying a new diet now. The diet is Viagra and prune juice. I tell ya, I don't know if I'm coming or going") and famous i-don't-get-no-respect trade-mark, Rodney had a very late and short-lived career.

Born in NY in 1921, he started comedy in his teens. Not able to make a go of it, he quite and became an aluminum-siding salesman. It wasn't until he was 40, that he decided to have another go at it. He was most notably a club-act, a true "comedian's comedian" and appeared a record 70 times on THE TONIGHT SHOW.

He only made a handful of movies, most of which disapeared into the nether regions of film history.

I always knew OF him, but didn't discover his brilliance until I saw CADDYSHACK...

A social commentary picture disguised as a slap-stick comedy, this movie truely is Bill Murray, Chevy Chase and of course Rodney, all at their very best.

Here are a few links for more info:

Rodney is one of the best one-line comedians out there. He understands the set-up, punch-line better then anyone else. Check out his website for archives, video and past jokes...

Rodney.com

His IMDB profile, with mini biography...

Rodney's profile on IMDB

and a link to his comedy club in NY...

Dangerfield's in NY

enjoy.

Death-Ray Du Comedie

Oh, my, that was exhausting...

8 hours STRAIGHT of of-the-wall, largely improvised, Terry-Gilliam-strange, drug-induced, abstract, avant-garde, stand-up comedy.

No breaks, no intermission, no musical acts, no dogs jumping through hoops, no fire-balls - nothing!

How did I come across going to this? Well, funny you should ask....

I was enjoying a slow-cooked halibut and chips - with extra Seaman sauce - at my favorite "C+ rated" establishement, The Yukon Mining Co., when I remembered having browsed the Bob and David website*, and found out that they were both going to perform at THE COMEDY DEATH RAY 2nd ANNIVERSARY SHOW (or something to that effect).

*BLOGER'S foot-NOTE:

Bob Odenkirk and David Cross are the funny men who created and stared in

Myself and my dinner companion, both big fans of the show and Dave and Bob's mis-guided sense of humour, decided to head down and see if we could get in (supposedly SOLD OUT.) Naturally, we get there, and the place looks deserted. Easy-peasy we get in, and weren't released again until 6 AM on Saturday.

In that 8 hours we saw:

BJ Porter

Some dude named Dino

This guy hung out at the back all night, hoping someone would cancel, so he could go on. Finally, around 5AM, "Pepitone" went on and yelled a bunch of un-funny jokes for twenty minutes.

Some funny lookin' feller named Patton Oswalt...

and this even funnier lookin' "man"

Brian Posehn, who you've probably seen on JUST SHOOT ME, the David Spade show from the late 90s.

Oh, and Andy Dick showed up...

and did his version of the old Abbott & Costello bit, "Who's on First" with the help of Dino(pictured above).

All and all, an enjoyable night of hilarity and crazy antics.

WWWHAT!?!?!

This comes as a surprise.

:: rogerebert.com :: (xhtml)

Once again, I'm left to ponder the possibility that, maybe, I'm just a complete idiot and didn't understand this movie. I completely missed the briliance of this picture, and have no business being in the film industry.

Incase you're wondering what I thought, here's my "review".
Tristan's Review of LADDER 49.
